古根漢畢爾包美術館

城市的競爭力，不必然在於尺度與人口的大小，而在於城市的風格與人文氣息涵養的發散，及城市發展願景的實踐力。中小尺度的城市如畢爾包僅有50萬人口，位居西班牙的第4大都市，經由10年來的市政建設努力，爭取到古根漢博物館在歐洲的籌建，同時運作起地下捷運與地面輕軌系統，因而在全球的地圖上浮現這個城市的「名字」；法蘭克‧蓋瑞的作品『古根漢美術館』，於1997年11月開館，其吸引觀光客的功能也足以改變整個城市的風貌。

Airport:The steady increase in air traffic and the deregulation of air transport are some of the factors that have led to the elaboration of a project for the expansion and modernization of Bilbao's Airport. This project is currently under way.
The main feature of the project is the new terminal, designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava. An investment of 42 million Euro has being devoted to complete the project. It covers an area of 25,000 m2 and is able to handle 2.5 million passengers per year. The opening was on November 19th of 2000

INTEGRAL PLAN FOR THE CLEAN-UP OF THE NERVION ESTUARY

A NEW WATERFRONT
A new cultural area and business center is to be set up on the waterfront in Bilbao, as part of the plan to revitalize the city. The area is located between two major landmarks of the Bilbao of the future: the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Euskalduna Conference and Concert Hall.

The Bilbao Metro started operations on 11th November 1995 in an attempt to achieve the following aims in public transport for the city:
Improve traffic congestion in the metropolitan area
Raise the standards of public transport
Act as the mainspring of the transport system for the area
Contribute to the revitalization of city life and business.
